08 Mar Your Luck Never Runs Out With Net Metering
One of the most common questions we get here at Vision Solar is “What is net metering?”. We know the technical terms that come with your solar panel installation can be very overwhelming. We want to make sure you understand everything about your panels so that you are just as confident as we are that you are making the right decision for your home. With the breakdown of net metering, you will be able to see how your luck never runs out with the amount of money you are able to save when you switch to Vision Solar!
Panel Energy Collection
The first steps in the net metering process begin with your panels collecting energy from the sun. During the day, your panels are working at their most efficient abilities. It only takes about 8.5 minutes for the sun’s photons, particles that carry energy, to travel 93 million miles to Earth. When those photons reach our solar panels, the energy is converted into usable electricity. However, depending on the number of panels on your roof and the amount of energy they are producing, you will almost always have leftover energy. This is right where net metering comes into play.
Net Metering
When there is excess energy produced, your solar panels stream that extra electricity to your electric grid, where it is stored for use elsewhere. You then receive a credit from their energy company for the excess electricity being stored in the grid. This process is called net metering, also known as net energy metering (NEM). Net metering is the reason you can access solar power when the sun is out of view, such as during the night. Net metering gives you the opportunity to allow the panels to pay for themselves. The more energy-efficient you are within your home the less stored energy you are using, bringing back a credit at the end of the month!
Savings With Solar
Net metering is a great incentive for homeowners that wish to switch to solar. The money that you can earn back from the grid could essentially be enough to pay for your entire bill. Your panels in this case are paying for themselves. With the push for clean energy, net metering hopefully stays in place for as long as possible. However, as with any incentive, there is no guarantee that this will stay in place forever…So Take the First Step!
