03 Jan Solar Predictions for 2022!
Happy new year from Vision Solar! A new year means new beginnings, new resolutions, and new opportunities. The past is far behind us, and we are only moving forward. Especially for the solar energy industry, 2022 is predicted to be a record year! Here are some optimistic expectations for this new year:
According to a new report from S&P Global Market Intelligence, U.S. solar and wind deployments are on track to hit new records in 2022. For solar, the forecast is nearly double 2021′s, estimated 23 gigawatts of new capacity.
Many factors fuel the growth for renewable energy, including the expansion of state-level renewable requirements and expected tax credits extensions for 2022. In addition, the infrastructure bill passed by the House includes billions of dollars for clean energy projects. This bill would forecast that the U.S. will install an additional 43.5 GW of solar capacity over the baseline forecast between 2022 and 2026.
“This would bring cumulative solar capacity in the United States to over 300 gigawatts, which is triple the amount of solar deployed today,” the report said.
The bill includes an extension of the Investment Tax Credit, which has been instrumental to the U.S. solar industry’s growth. “If the current administration is successful in putting the U.S. on a path to 100% decarbonization of the energy sector by 2035, these record-setting projections are just the beginning,” S&P said of its 2022 estimates.
